FHCP structure and management

FHCP volunteers work closely with a Healthcare Team in BACP to manage the day to day running of FHCP and delivery of long-term goals and projects.

FHCP Executive

Carl - FHCP Chair
Areas of Responsibility - Members / Patients Voice / Events / IT / Information
Carl worked in the voluntary sector and private practice before working as a Counsellor in NHS Primary Care Settings for over the last 12 years. Carl has recently been providing Primary Care input into a Counselling Diploma and CBT Post Grad Certificate. Training in CBT over the last five years have led to the present job title of Psychological Therapist - CBT & Self-Help (Lead Role), Carl is about to embark on further training as an IAPT Supervisor.
  Derek - FHCP Deputy Chair
Areas of Responsibility - Southern England / Regulation / Research / Finance
Derek has been a counsellor for over thirty-five years and is now partly retired. While he was Head of Counselling at Brunel University he started working part-time in a primary care practice which led to him being actively involved in Counselling in Medical Settings which became FHCP. For twenty years he was Secretary of an international counselling association IRTAC (now IAC) which involved planning conferences worldwide. Derek was Chair of BAC from 1989-1991 and is a BACP Fellow.
Sarah Hovington
Areas of Responsibility - Primary Care / Publications & Media
Sarah has worked as a primary care practitioner for five years, firstly as a counsellor/primary care mental health worker and now as a counsellor working in GPs surgeries in Liverpool. Prior to this, she was a service manager in the voluntary sector and previously worked in journalism as a magazine editor.
Hazel Flynn
Areas of Responsibility - Third Sector
Hazel has been a counsellor, supervisor and manager for 11 years in the NHS and from 2006, Head of Counselling and Advocacy for SignHealth. SignHealth is the national charity for the wellbeing of Deaf people and works to promote equality of access to health services for Deaf, British Sign Language (BSL) users. Before becoming a counsellor Hazel worked as a Social Worker with Deaf People and is fluent in BSL. Her aim is to develop counsellor training to enable Deaf people the opportunity to train to become qualified professionals and be equal to their hearing peers.
Zubeida Ali
Areas of Responsibility - Employment / Placements / Training / Education
Zubeida has been a counsellor for over 10 years. She worked in the voluntary sector before joining the NHS in 1998 as a counsellor in Primary Care and continues to work in this setting. In this time she has managed counselling services within this setting and is currently Professional Lead for Counselling for a Specialist Mental Health Trust within the NHS.
Tina Campbell
Areas of Responsibility - Scotland / Inclusion and Diversity
Tina has been a counsellor for 15 years and a supervisor for 7 years. She has a background which includes 18 years in education and began her counselling studies at Leeds university. Since moving to Scotland in 2000, Tina has pursued further training in couples counselling and systemic family therapy. She is a Trainer on a diploma course. Since 2003, she has been Counselling Manager at Sandyford, Greater Glasgow & Clyde NHS, which is now the largest NHS counselling service in Scotland. Tina has presented both nationally and internationally on the impact of historical sexual abuse. She has recently become Chair of FHCP Scotland Network.

Members making a difference

FHCP is keen to set up working groups that enable a greater connectivity with the needs of members and the healthcare sector. Volunteering for such work can be very rewarding for those involved and can involve as much or little of your time as you can give.
